The Milwaukee Brewers beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 6-2 on the road Wednesday night to take a 3-0 lead in the National League Championship Series and move within one win of their first World Series since 1982. Jake Bauers and Garrett Mitchell launched back-to-back homers off Blake Snell in the seventh inning, the turning point of the night.
Jackson Chourio also went deep on the first pitch of the game, his third career leadoff homer in the postseason. The Dodgers briefly took a 2-1 lead in the sixth on Will Smith's two-run double, but Milwaukee answered with three runs in the seventh to pull ahead for good.
"Job's not finished yet," Mitchell said. Manager Pat Murphy noted his team has answered every time the Dodgers scored, which is not easy to do in baseball. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said: "We've got to win tomorrow. That's our only focus." Game 4 is set for Thursday at Dodger Stadium.

2. DeBrincat Signs Seven-Year, $91 Million Contract With Red Wings
Source: NHL.com
The Detroit Red Wings announced Wednesday that forward Alex DeBrincat has signed a seven-year, $91 million contract with an average annual value of $13 million that begins next season. The 28-year-old would have been an unrestricted free agent after this season.
DeBrincat is in the final season of a four-year, $31.5 million deal he signed on July 9, 2023. Last season he posted a career-high 85 points (41 goals, 44 assists), and he has eight points (four goals, four assists) this season, including two goals and an assist in a 5-4 overtime loss to the New Jersey Devils on Tuesday. A native of Farmington Hills, Michigan, he was drafted by the Chicago Blackhawks in the second round (No. 39) in 2016 and has 603 points in 702 games with the Blackhawks, Red Wings and Senators.
DeBrincat said he is immensely proud to be a Red Wing and wants to "be part of the solution." The Red Wings, though, have won just one of their first six games (1-3-2); in a tumultuous offseason captain Dylan Larkin requested a trade, general manager Steve Yzerman moved to a senior adviser role and assistant GM Shawn Horcoff became interim GM.

3. Tuch Scores Twice as Capitals Edge Canadiens 5-4

The Washington Capitals beat the Montreal Canadiens 5-4 on Wednesday night. Alex Tuch scored twice and added an assist, Jordan Kyrou had a goal and an assist, Justin Holl and Ivan Miroshnichenko also scored, and goaltender Charlie Lindgren stopped 26 shots as Washington snapped a two-game losing streak.
Josh Anderson scored twice for Montreal, while Lane Hutson and Nick Suzuki added goals. Both teams played Tuesday: the Capitals lost 4-2 at Carolina, and the Canadiens edged Buffalo 4-3 in a shootout at home. Anderson opened the scoring 4:56 in, and Hutson scored while playing against younger brother Cole for the first time.
Washington took a 3-2 lead 6:16 into the second on Tuch's short-handed goal before Anderson tied it again. Holl broke the tie with 7:31 to play, and Tuch added an insurance goal minutes later for his fifth of the season. Suzuki pulled Montreal within one with 1:39 left on the power play with an extra attacker, but it was too late. The Canadiens host Buffalo on Saturday; the Capitals host New Jersey on Saturday.

4. MLB Moves Up ALCS and NLCS Start Times Due to Weather
Source: CBS Sports
Major League Baseball announced Wednesday that Game 3 of the American League Championship Series between the Tampa Bay Rays and Cleveland Guardians has been moved up from 6 p.m. ET to 1 p.m. ET because of forecasted inclement weather in the Cleveland area. The teams split the first two games in Tampa Bay, and Games 3-5 shift to Cleveland.
MLB said the change was made proactively "based on forecasted rain on Thursday night in Cleveland" in order to remain on schedule in the ALCS. A few hours later, the league also moved up Game 4 of the NLCS between the Brewers and Dodgers from 9 p.m. ET to 8 p.m. ET, still at Dodger Stadium.
Looking ahead, Cleveland's Friday forecast calls for rain throughout the day, though it is expected to be light in the evening; Game 4 on Friday is currently scheduled for 6 p.m. ET, with a possible Game 5 on Saturday at 9 p.m. ET. Gavin Williams will start for Cleveland, opposed by the Rays' Griffin Jax.

5. Leonard Scores 21 in Raptors Return as Toronto Romps Past Knicks 148-98
Source: CP24
Kawhi Leonard scored a game-high 21 points in his first game back with the Toronto Raptors as the team rolled past the New York Knicks 148-98 on Tuesday. It was his first appearance since the Los Angeles Clippers traded him back to Toronto this past summer, and he drew the loudest cheers of the night.
The two-time NBA Finals MVP played 17 minutes and added five rebounds, saying afterward he just wanted to "get out, get after it, and get tired." Leonard previously played for the Raptors in 2018-19, leading them to their only NBA championship. The Clippers traded him back to Toronto this summer in a deal delayed by an NBA investigation into salary cap circumvention; the team, owner Steve Ballmer and several executives were severely punished, while Leonard received only a relatively small fine.
In the trade, Toronto sent Brandon Ingram, Gradey Dick, two unprotected first-round picks, a 2027 pick swap and two second-round selections to Los Angeles. Scottie Barnes added 19 points, six rebounds and four assists, and Mississauga, Ont., native RJ Barrett had 17 points, four boards and three assists. Leonard did not play in the second half. Toronto visits New York on Thursday, finishes its exhibition schedule Friday in Detroit, and opens at home Oct. 21 against the Chicago Bulls.

6. Ahead of the Deadline, Eight NFL Players Who Could Be on the Move
Source: theScore
With the NFL's Nov. 10 trade deadline less than a month away, the league has already seen four trades in recent weeks sending J.J. McCarthy, Joey Porter Jr., Cam Jurgens and Marvin Harrison Jr. to new teams. theScore has listed eight players who could be dealt before the deadline and who could interest contenders.
The list includes: 35-year-old veteran pass rusher Khalil Mack (Chargers, off to a 0-5 start, a free agent in 2027); 29-year-old running back Tony Pollard on the 0-5 Titans; two Cardinals veterans — pass rusher Josh Sweat, who reportedly requested a trade this year, and long-time Cardinal Budda Baker; 28-year-old pass rusher Josh Uche on the 0-5 Dolphins; wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr., whom the Jaguars have so far refused to trade; Commanders defensive lineman Daron Payne; and Browns wide receiver Jerry Jeudy.
The piece argues that as the deadline nears, more teams without title hopes will become sellers. Sweat had 12 sacks last year and has one so far this season, while Baker has earned eight Pro Bowl nods in his career.

7. WNBA Finals Ticket Prices Hit Historic High as Dream Move Two Home Games to Hawks' Arena
Source: Bleacher Report
Ticket prices for the 2026 WNBA Finals between the Atlanta Dream and Golden State Valkyries have climbed to historic levels. According to TickPick, the get-in price for Game 3 in Atlanta is $201, the most expensive WNBA Finals game on record.
The Valkyries will host the first two games before Angel Reese and the Dream return home for the next two. On Tuesday the WNBA announced that Games 3 and 4 will be moved to State Farm Arena, usually home to the Atlanta Hawks. The Dream's regular home, Gateway Center Arena, holds just 3,500, while State Farm Arena can hold more than 17,000 fans.
The Dream are seeking their first championship in franchise history after a 30-14 regular season and sweeps in the first two playoff rounds. Reese is averaging a career-high 16.4 points, 12.1 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.8 steals, and was named Defensive Player of the Year for 2026 on Oct. 1. The Valkyries, an expansion team that joined the WNBA in 2025, posted a 32-12 regular season and a 5-1 playoff mark. Game 1 tips off Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET.

8. Man Utd Reported to Call Emergency Meeting as Martinez Criticizes Technical Director
Source: Football365
Manchester United held an emergency meeting Wednesday morning following defender Lisandro Martinez's public outburst at technical director Jason Wilcox, according to reports. United have had a poor start to the season, winning only two of manager Michael Carrick's first nine games in all competitions.
After Tuesday's 2-0 loss to Atletico Madrid, Martinez aimed his criticism at Wilcox for not doing enough to support Carrick in the summer. "We did a fantastic season last season and now we expect more from the top, more players to compete because many teams bring many players as well," he said, adding that he expects "100 percent" more investment from the technical director.
Football365 cited a source calling itself Indykaila, which claims a "team of five elite reporters," saying Old Trafford reacted dramatically to Martinez's comments: Wilcox was called around 8 a.m. that morning, and the club was briefly said to be in "full crisis mode." The report also said Martinez is in the final year of his contract and that his chances of staying are "remote to the extreme." United face Leeds United in the league this weekend.

9. Canada's Fernandez Advances to Third Round of Wuhan Open
Source: Sportsnet
Canada's Leylah Fernandez advanced to the third round of the Wuhan Open on Wednesday with a 6-3, 6-4 win over China's Shi Han. Shi, who opened the tournament by upsetting 13th seed Alexandra Eala, hit 23 unforced errors — 10 more than Fernandez — and converted just one of eight break-point chances.
Fernandez struggled on serve with seven double faults but made the most of her opportunities, converting three of four break points. The 24-year-old from Laval, Que., will next face Latvia's Jelena Ostapenko at the WTA 1000 event. Ostapenko won their only previous meeting in the first round of Wimbledon in 2021.
Fernandez entered Wuhan ranked 25th in the world and won her sixth career WTA title last month in Singapore.

10. CFL Week 20: Roughriders and Blue Bombers Can Clinch Playoff Spots
Source: 3DownNation
The CFL confirmed Wednesday that the Saskatchewan Roughriders and Winnipeg Blue Bombers can both officially clinch playoff spots this week. To secure a berth, the Roughriders (8-8) must beat the Montreal Alouettes (13-3) on Saturday afternoon and then see the Calgary Stampeders (8-9) lose to the B.C. Lions (10-6) that night. Saskatchewan was blown out 44-24 by Montreal last week.
The Roughriders can also get in if they win and Winnipeg loses to the Edmonton Elks (12-4) on Friday night, even if Calgary wins. The Blue Bombers (8-8) control their own destiny and can clinch with a win over Edmonton — Edmonton has won both previous meetings this season by a combined eight points. If Winnipeg fails to win, a Calgary loss would also send them through.
The Roughriders are the defending Grey Cup champions after beating the Alouettes 25-17 in Winnipeg last November. Montreal, Edmonton, the Toronto Argonauts and the B.C. Lions have already clinched playoff spots, while the Ottawa Redblacks and Hamilton Tiger-Cats have been eliminated; Montreal has also clinched first place in the East. The 113th Grey Cup is scheduled for Nov. 15 at McMahon Stadium in Calgary.
