1. Tkachuk Brothers Make NHL History as Brady's Hat Trick Is All Assisted by Matthew

The Tkachuk brothers made NHL history Tuesday night in the Florida Panthers' 7-3 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets. Brady Tkachuk scored three consecutive goals — a natural hat trick — with brother Matthew assisting on all three. According to NHL PR, Brady is the first player in NHL history to have his brother assist on every goal of a natural hat trick. He is also the ninth player in NHL history to have his brother set up three goals of a hat trick, and the first since Daniel Sedin scored on three helpers from Henrik Sedin in 2015.
The Panthers trailed 1-0 in Columbus when Brady recorded the third-fastest hat trick in franchise history in just over eight minutes of the second period. His first goal marked the first time the brothers had combined for a tally since playing for Team USA at the 2026 Milan Cortina Olympics. Matthew finished the night with five assists, setting a franchise record for assists in a single period along the way and also setting up a Sam Reinhart goal early in the third. Brady (3-1) and Matthew (0-5) combined for nine points — the first pair of brothers and teammates to do so since the Sedins in 2015.
Brady had just one assist through his first six games with Matthew and the Panthers. "For sure, felt that pressure... felt like I wasn't doing my job, and wasn't good enough, but knew eventually it was going to come," Brady told ESPN. The Panthers (3-2-2) had dropped four of their last five and are missing Aleksander Barkov and Brad Marchand, each expected out at least a month.

2. Rays Even ALCS at 1-1 with 3-1 Win Over Guardians
Source: Sportsnet.ca
The Tampa Bay Rays beat the Cleveland Guardians 3-1 at Tropicana Field on Tuesday night to level the best-of-seven American League Championship Series at 1-1. Freddy Peralta, acquired from the New York Mets for three prospects including Canadian infielder Emilien Pitre, threw six shutout innings, while Toronto-born catcher Liam Hicks delivered a two-run single. A Jose Ramirez error let Ben Williamson's grounder skip through his legs and allowed Victor Mesa Jr. to score the game's first run.
Hicks, added from the Miami Marlins for three prospects headlined by Brayden Taylor, hit just .192/.274/.231 against lefties in the regular season but timed up a first-pitch slider from All-Star lefty Parker Messick as a crowd of 32,125 roared. Peralta threw the hardest pitch of his career at 99.4 mph, and the Rays have won his last eight starts dating to Aug. 26.
The Guardians threatened late: after Kevin Kelly put two on, Ian Seymour gave up a Chase DeLauter RBI double but struck out Jo Adell to end the threat, then tossed a scoreless eighth before All-Star Bryan Baker retired the side in order in the ninth. Game 3 is set for Thursday evening in Cleveland, with both starters to be determined.

3. Bedard Returns from Injury With an Assist as Blackhawks Beat Penguins 5-3
Source: NHL.com
Chicago Blackhawks captain Connor Bedard had an assist in his season debut Tuesday, helping his team to a 5-3 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins at United Center. He missed Chicago's first six games recovering from offseason shoulder surgery for an injury sustained in a training session on July 2, and was initially expected to be out until November. He had skated in a noncontact jersey since Oct. 5 and took part in his first two full practices on Sunday and Monday.
"Felt good," Bedard said. "Nice to be back, and the energy and stuff felt pretty good." Blackhawks coach Jeff Blashill said Bedard was clearly a little rusty at times but that coming back this quickly and playing that well was impressive, praising the work he put in to return.
Teuvo Teravainen had two goals and an assist, and rookie Roman Kantserov scored twice for the Blackhawks (2-5-0), who had lost two in a row. Spencer Knight made 24 saves. Patrick Kane, who played on the top line with Bedard, picked up his 894th career assist to tie Phil Housley for the all-time lead among American-born players. For Pittsburgh, Sidney Crosby scored his first two goals of the season and Sergei Murashov made 15 saves.

4. Jury Finds Tyreek Hill Liable on Two Battery Counts, Awards Estranged Wife $500K
Source: NFL.com
MIAMI — A Miami jury on Tuesday found Tyreek Hill liable for two counts of battery but not liable for the eight remaining claims made by Lakeeta Vaccaro, ending the high-profile civil trial involving the NFL wide receiver and his estranged wife. Hill, who has played for the Kansas City Chiefs and Miami Dolphins, was found liable for two counts — one stemming from an incident in January 2024 and another from April 2025. The jury awarded Vaccaro $500,000 in compensatory damages but did not award punitive damages.
The jury found Hill not liable for eight other counts that included battery, assault and continuing domestic violence. Wearing a dark polo shirt, Hill embraced one of his attorneys and shook hands with others following the verdict before leaving the courtroom by himself.
It wasn't immediately clear what the verdict means for Hill's return to the NFL. He is still working his way back from a dislocated knee and torn ligaments suffered in September 2025 while with the Dolphins, but his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, has indicated he could be ready to play by November.
5. McDavid Posts Four Points in His 800th Game as Oilers Beat Kings 4-1
Source: NHL.com
LOS ANGELES — Connor McDavid had a goal and three assists in his 800th NHL game, and the Edmonton Oilers extended their winning streak to five by beating the Los Angeles Kings 4-1 at Crypto.com Arena on Tuesday. McDavid has 17 points (four goals, 13 assists) in a season-opening six-game point streak. Vasily Podkolzin scored twice and Leon Draisaitl had a goal and an assist for the Oilers (5-0-1), who swept a three-game road trip to stay perfect away from home.
The Oilers led 3-0 after the first period, with McDavid factoring on all three goals: he set up Draisaitl at 7:16, then Podkolzin scored on the power play at 8:16, and McDavid made it 3-0 at 15:48 by gloving down a stretch pass and beating the goalie on a breakaway. Brandt Clarke scored for the Kings. Podkolzin's empty-net goal at 17:42 of the third made it 4-1. Goalie Devon Levi made 39 saves for his fourth straight win.
McDavid has 1,237 points (413 goals, 824 assists) through 800 games, third-most in NHL history behind Wayne Gretzky (1,892) and Mario Lemieux (1,580). He is also the ninth player in NHL history with at least 50 four-point games. The Kings (0-3-2) have lost five straight.

6. Hutson Shines as Canadiens Edge Sabres 4-3 in a Shootout
Source: TSN
MONTREAL — Lane Hutson scored a goal and set up another with a breathtaking assist as the Montreal Canadiens beat the Buffalo Sabres 4-3 in a shootout after blowing a two-goal lead. Hutson tied the game 1-1 at 14:28 of the first period with a wrist shot on a five-on-three power play, then late in the second drew three Sabres skaters before sliding a no-look backhand pass to Josh Anderson, who scored with 50 seconds left in the period.
Hutson logged a team-high 27:07 of ice time, including 2:40 during three-on-three overtime, as Montreal leaned on the five-foot-nine, 162-pound defenceman even more than usual with veteran Mike Matheson out with a lower-body injury. Kaiden Guhle took over Matheson's spot alongside Alexandre Carrier and logged 25:25 in his second game of the season. Cole Caufield also had a goal and an assist. Montreal (3-2-1) outshot Buffalo (3-3-1) 38-17.
The Sabres struck twice in 61 seconds early in the third period through Josh Norris and Olen Zellweger to tie it, with all three Buffalo goals coming from point shots that deflected off Canadiens players. Zachary Bolduc scored the shootout winner for the second straight game. Montreal's penalty kill went five-for-five, and goalie Jacob Fowler made 14 saves in his third consecutive start. Coach Martin St. Louis said Hutson "had his fastball" on the night.

7. Kawhi Leonard Scores 21 in Raptors Pre-Season Debut as Toronto Routs Knicks 148-98
Source: Sportsnet.ca
TORONTO — Kawhi Leonard put on a Raptors uniform for the first time since lifting the Finals MVP trophy in June 2019, playing 16 minutes (all in the first half) and scoring 21 points on 12 shots (4-of-8 from three) with five rebounds and two steals to help Toronto rout the New York Knicks 148-98 Tuesday at Scotiabank Arena, the only home game of the Raptors' five exhibition games.
Toronto tried to acquire Leonard from the Los Angeles Clippers on June 30, but the trade took more than two months to complete pending an NBA investigation into salary cap circumvention by the Clippers. The delay set back his readiness, so he sat out Toronto's first two pre-season games for reconditioning. The Raptors improved to 2-1 in the pre-season.
Scottie Barnes had 19 points, six rebounds, four assists and two steals in 22 minutes, and second-year forward Collin Murray-Boyles added 19 points and nine rebounds on 7-of-7 shooting. "It feels good, just being out there and playing a different opponent was great," Leonard said. Notably, the Knicks rested their starters after playing in New York the previous night. Leonard signed a two-year, $115 million extension that takes him through his age-37 season.

8. Canadian Rams OT Alaric Jackson Suspended Two Games for Punching Bills' Chubb
Source: TSN
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Rams starting left tackle Alaric Jackson has been suspended two games without pay for striking Buffalo linebacker Bradley Chubb in the face after their teams' overtime game Monday night. The NFL announced the suspension Tuesday, and Jackson is slated to miss Los Angeles' games against Arizona and Las Vegas. Coach Sean McVay said Jackson will appeal, and that veteran David Quessenberry will start in his place.
The confrontation followed the Bills' 37-34 overtime win over the Rams at SoFi Stadium. The league called Jackson's blow "an act of unsportsmanlike conduct." Jackson was doing a jersey swap with another Bills player when Chubb had words with him and walked away; Jackson followed, confronted Chubb and threw a strike that knocked Chubb's hat off. Teammates quickly separated the two.
Jackson, a Canadian-American dual citizen, was arrested June 9 on suspicion of felony domestic violence after a confrontation with a woman at his home in the San Fernando Valley; his case was assigned for a prefiling diversion that likely allows him to avoid criminal charges, and the NFL has yet to announce league discipline for that incident. He was sued in 2025 by a woman who alleged he recorded sexual acts with her without her consent, leading to a two-game suspension to open the 2024 season. Quessenberry, 36, has played only 128 offensive snaps over the previous two seasons and hasn't started an NFL game since 2023.

9. WNBA Moves Finals Games 3, 4 to State Farm Arena
Source: TSN
The Atlanta Dream will host Games 3 and 4 of the WNBA Finals at State Farm Arena, the home of the Atlanta Hawks, the franchise announced Tuesday morning. Game 3 has been moved from Oct. 22 to Oct. 21, while Game 4 stays on Oct. 24. The best-of-seven Finals begin Saturday between the Valkyries and the Dream, with Golden State hosting the first two games. The Dream's home arena, Gateway Center Arena at College Park, holds just 3,500 fans.
Six of the Dream's regular-season games this season, and all three playoff games, were played at State Farm, which seats more than 17,000. The arena, however, was booked for a concert on Oct. 22 and Hawks games Oct. 24 and 29, so Game 3 was moved a day earlier; the Hawks also changed their Oct. 24 tipoff against the Houston Rockets from 8 p.m. to 8:30, and the Valkyries and Dream will tip at 1 p.m. instead of 3:30.
Hawks CEO Steve Koonin said owner Tony Ressler "wanted us to do everything in our power to make it happen." Valkyries owner Joe Lacob said he put "quite a bit of pressure" on the NBA and WNBA commissioners to move the games. In a statement Tuesday, WNBA commissioner Cathy Engelbert said the change will ensure the Dream can "provide an extraordinary atmosphere for the first WNBA Finals game to be played in the Atlanta market since 2013."

10. Hellebuyck May End Holdout and Return to Jets as Fan Site Tracking Lost Salary Goes Viral
Source: Toronto Sun
The Winnipeg Jets have gotten off to a flying start despite having their best player, Connor Hellebuyck, suspended by the team after failing to show up for training camp after demanding a trade. As the star goalie's lost salary grows by the minute on the fan-made Hellebucks site, there have been murmurs that the American is considering a return. NHL insider David Pagnotta noted over the weekend that the possibility of Hellebuyck ending his holdout and trying to patch things up with the team may be gaining steam.
"I wouldn't be surprised if we start hearing more throughout the week with respect to the possibility of him coming back to Winnipeg in the not too distant future," Pagnotta said on NHL Network. He added that things "could get ugly" and "awkward" in the room if the superstar returns. Hellebuyck has won three Vezina Trophies and took home the Hart Trophy as league MVP in 2025, playing his entire 11-year career in Winnipeg. Jets GM Kevin Cheveldayoff has refused to budge on the asking price in a trade.
Winnipeg hasn't missed their star goalie much, going 3-1-1 for seven points in five games; the Jets hosted the Minnesota Wild on Tuesday night. Former Oilers goalie Stuart Skinner has played well, going 2-0-1 with a 2.62 GAA and a .920 save percentage. According to the Hellebucks site, created by fan Robson Fletcher, Hellebuyck had forfeited more than $557,000 US as of Tuesday morning, losing $38,660 every day, with 7.4% of his $7.5 million 2026-27 salary already gone. "It was meant to be funny, informative and just a little bit petty," Fletcher said.
