Advance voting for Toronto's mayoral, city council and school trustee races begins today, Oct. 6. From Oct. 6 to 11, residents can head to designated early polling stations across the city between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. Where to vote can be found on your voter information card or by visiting My Vote and entering your primary residence.

Advance voting locations are not the same as election-day stations. Election day is Monday, Oct. 26, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. All voters must show identification bearing their name and Toronto address; passports are not accepted because they do not show an address.

To be eligible, you must be at least 18, a Canadian citizen and a Toronto resident, unless you or your spouse own property in the city. The city notes voters are entitled to three consecutive hours to cast a ballot, and those unable to attend may appoint a voting proxy.

2. Six Aboard Missing Ontario Air Ambulance Identified; TSB to Lead Probe

Source: CP24

Canada's Transportation Safety Board (TSB) will lead the investigation into the crash of an Ontario air ambulance that went missing over the Atlantic Ocean. The Gulfstream G100, operated by Hamilton-based Latitude Air Ambulance as "Heartbeat 104 Medevac," disappeared early Saturday, Oct. 3, while flying from Bermuda to Boston after the crew reported electrical difficulties and declared an emergency.

On Monday night, the U.S. Coast Guard released the names of four Canadians on board: Philip Gregory Childerhose, Thomas Henry Farquhar, Sarah Jane Paton and Jolene Beth Weir. Bermuda Police also identified the two Bermudan nationals as Marilyn Lavonne Bean, 66, and her son Sergio Wayne Lottimore, 41. Crews found a debris field off Nantucket, Mass., and the search was suspended Sunday.

Latitude said the four team members, a patient and a family escort aboard are presumed to have died. The TSB said it will deploy investigators to help search for and recover the aircraft, with assistance from the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board.

Source: CP24

A new poll conducted exclusively for CP24 and CTV News Toronto shows Olivia Chow with a nearly 10-point lead among decided voters in the Toronto mayoral race, with Chris Alexander a distant third.

Nanos Polling surveyed 755 randomly selected Toronto residents from Sept. 30 to Oct. 4. It found 52.4 per cent of decided voters would vote for Chow, compared with 42.6 per cent for Brad Bradford and four per cent for Alexander; about one per cent said they would back another candidate.

Nanos chief data scientist Nik Nanos said the race is "shaping up as a two-candidate race." Chow had the support of 60.2 per cent of female respondents and 59.2 per cent of those aged 18-34, and leads in Toronto-East York and Scarborough. The survey has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.6 percentage points.

5. Man Wanted After East-End Office Break-In

Toronto police are searching for a male suspect after an office was broken into and several electronics stolen in the city's east end last month. On Sept. 14, shortly after 4 a.m., a suspect used the fire escape to get into an office in the Leslieville neighbourhood, near Queen Street East and Carlaw Avenue, police say.

Once inside, the suspect allegedly stole several boxes of electronics before leaving. Police say he was last seen walking southbound on Carlaw Avenue and eastbound on Queen Street East before possibly boarding a streetcar to flee the area.

He is described as a thin man, possibly 30-40 years old, last seen wearing a dark blue T-shirt with white lettering and an "8" on the front, grey track pants, and carrying a brown cardboard box. The investigation is ongoing.

7. Police Identify North York Homicide Victim; Suspect at Large

Toronto police have identified a man murdered inside a Toronto Community Housing building in North York over the weekend as the search continues for a suspect. The victim is 34-year-old Christopher Gordon, of Toronto — the city's 30th homicide of the year.

The incident occurred Sunday, Oct. 4, in the Lawrence Heights neighbourhood on Blossomfield Drive, near Flemington Road, in the vicinity of Lawrence Avenue West and William R. Allen Road. Police said that just before 8:20 a.m. they responded to a call in the area for an echo-tiered response, and a "disturbance" was heard inside a residential apartment building. A man was found in a fourth-floor unit with traumatic injuries and was pronounced dead on scene.

Det. Sgt. Sanjeev Nair, of the Homicide and Missing Persons Unit, said investigators do not believe the victim resided there and that several people fled the building northbound, including the suspect. Police have identified the suspect as Cody Rudifo, 32, of Timmins, wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for first-degree murder. Police warn he is considered armed and dangerous and that anyone who spots him should not approach but call 911.

8. Unclaimed $40M Lotto Max Ticket Set to Expire

Source: CP24

Ontario Lottery and Gaming says a $40 million Lotto Max jackpot remains unclaimed and is set to expire on Oct. 28. The winning ticket was purchased somewhere in Ontario's Grey County region last year, for a Lotto Max draw dating back to Oct. 28, 2025.

OLG says the winning area includes Owen Sound, Meaford, The Blue Mountains, Flesherton, Markdale, Durham and Hanover. The winning numbers are 06, 14, 17, 19, 26, 43, 45, with bonus number 27. The ticket will expire if a winner does not come forward by Oct. 28, 2026.

OLG says that as Grey County is a popular destination for tourists and cottagers, someone visiting the area may have bought the ticket and forgotten to check it. Anyone who believes they may hold it is encouraged to check the OLG app or visit the unclaimed tickets website.

9. OneBC Says Former Leader Findlay and Husband Were Threatened

Source: CP24

British Columbia political party OneBC says former Conservative legislator Brent Chapman and his wife, former Conservative leader Kerry-Lynne Findlay, have been subjected to a "torrent of threats and abuse from insiders." Chapman announced last month that he was joining OneBC to run in the Oct. 24 election, after Findlay resigned as Conservative leader amid a caucus revolt.

But Chapman's name wasn't on the final list of candidates released Sunday by Elections BC, and OneBC says in a statement that the party and Chapman mutually decided he wouldn't run in the riding of Surrey South. The statement says OneBC was excited to have Chapman join the team but that "the strains of the last few months have been enormous."

Findlay resigned as leader less than four months after winning the party leadership. OneBC emerged as a splinter group from the B.C. Conservatives shortly after the party came close to winning the last provincial election; its interim leader, former Conservative legislator Dallas Brodie, is running to retain her riding. 10. Report: Nearly 70 Per Cent of Tip Workers Say Tips Are Down

Source: CP24

As Canadians feel the pinch on groceries, gas and everyday essentials, many are dining out less — and tipping less. The latest Tipping Point Report by Actual, a tip management and hospitality automation company, found 67 per cent of tip workers say the tips they receive have decreased across Canada.

Actual CEO Afshin Mousavin says the finding is not a surprise given "tipping fatigue" on the consumer side. The report found Atlantic Canadian workers feel misunderstood by customers: 43 per cent rely on tips to pay for essentials such as rent and groceries.

Natasha Chestnut of the Restaurant Association of Nova Scotia says both sides are understandable: "Everyone's being squeezed. Consumers are being squeezed because their expenses are up. Businesses are being squeezed because their expenses are up." The report also noted 41 per cent of restaurants are operating at a loss with zero profits.
