This is the card the Switch 2 actually needs. Nintendo's new console uses the microSD Express standard — a regular UHS-I card won't be recognised, so buying the wrong one is an expensive mistake. Check that the label says Express, which this one does.

It reads at up to 880MB/s and writes at up to 650MB/s over a PCIe Gen3 NVMe interface, roughly 4.4× faster than SanDisk's fastest UHS-I cards. In practice, downloads and footage transfers stop being something you wait on: a two-hour HD movie moves in under 3.5 seconds with the matching PRO-READER (sold separately).

512GB is the sensible size for a Switch 2. A handful of big titles plus the multiplayer games you keep installed still leave headroom, so you're not deleting something every time a new game lands.

Heat is the part people overlook with fast cards. SanDisk's ThermAdapt uses a dedicated enclosure and adaptive thermal controller to avoid throttling during long reads and writes. It's rated waterproof, temperature-proof, magnetic-proof, X-ray-proof and shock-proof too, so moving it between a camera and a drone isn't a gamble.

Card detail

It's backward compatible with older microSD UHS-I/II devices, just at lower speeds — useful if you have a camera or action cam to share it with.

At just over $180 for 512GB of Express storage, it's well below launch pricing. If there's a Switch 2 in the house, a card is inevitable.
