This is Samsung's current flagship Gen5 drive: 14,800MB/s sequential read and 13,400MB/s write, roughly twice the 990 PRO, with up to 2.2M / 2.6M IOPS random read/write. For 8K rendering, local AI model work, or a library of large games, the payoff is all in the time you don't spend waiting.

The heatsink version's real advantage is its 8.8mm thickness — Samsung says it fits PS5, desktops and laptops. If you're adding 4TB to a PS5, this is the version to buy; it drops straight in without modding. 4TB at Gen5 speed is about as high as consumer storage goes right now.

Power and thermals got attention too, with up to 49% better power efficiency and Magician software for health monitoring, firmware updates and encryption.

Two caveats: to hit full Gen5 speed your motherboard needs a dedicated PCIe 5.0 M.2 slot and a supporting CPU, otherwise it falls back to 4.0/3.0 speeds (it works, just capped); and the heatsink version is sized for PS5 / desktop M.2 slots, so it won't fit most external enclosures. 5-year warranty.
