Water damage has a nasty property: by the time you notice it, it's already expensive. Behind the washer, under the dishwasher, inside the vanity cabinet, next to the water heater — places nobody looks at for a year, until the floor is soaked and the drywall is growing things. Four sensors put a watch on those blind spots.

The mechanism is simple. Four probes on the bottom and two on top; water bridges them and it alarms. Locally that's 100 dB, roughly smoke-alarm loud, and the gateway pushes SMS, app notifications and email to your phone at the same time — so you find out while you're at work or out of the country. Alexa announcements cover the case where you're home but your phone isn't in reach.

It uses LoRa rather than direct Wi-Fi, rated to 1,968 ft (about 600 m). The practical upshot: gateway on the main floor, sensors in the basement, second floor and attic corner all stay connected, walls and all. One gateway handles up to 100 sensors, so expanding later doesn't mean replacing the system.

IP66 means it survives damp spots long-term — beside the hot water tank, under a sink. Govee rates the battery at five years and ships 8 AAA cells. The app is free, no subscription.

Two caveats before you buy. You need 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi and a powered gateway; this isn't a standalone offline alarm. And there are no trays included — most owners buy cheap plastic drip trays and sit each sensor in one, which makes a few drops enough to trigger it instead of waiting for a real puddle.

Once installed, hit the test button every few months and drip some water on it. Gear like this is silent by design; you want to know it's still alive before the night it matters.
