Worth Buying: Kobo Clara BW eReader — 6" Glare-Free Screen, IPX8 Waterproof, Borrow Library eBooks!

Amazon.ca has the Kobo Clara BW eReader for $179.98 CAD. Prime members get free shipping; otherwise orders over $35 CAD ship free.

This is one of the default choices for an eReader in Canada. The 6-inch E Ink Carta 1300 HD screen is glare-free so it stays readable in direct sunlight, with fast page turns and an optional Dark Mode for night reading. ComfortLight PRO lets you adjust brightness, color temperature and blue light, so it's less likely to keep you awake.

16GB of storage holds roughly 12,000 eBooks or 75 Kobo audiobooks, and battery life runs into the weeks. It's IPX8 waterproof — good for up to 60 minutes in 2 meters of water — so reading in the bath or by the pool isn't a gamble.

It also has a practical Canadian advantage: built-in OverDrive lets you borrow eBooks straight from your local library with a library card and return them automatically, no trip required. A Kobo Plus subscription adds unlimited eBooks and audiobooks with a 30-day trial, and Pocket saves web articles for offline reading.

The body uses recycled and ocean-bound plastic, and repairability is part of the design. It reads EPUB and MOBI and works with the Kobo ecosystem and OverDrive libraries.

eReaders rarely see big price drops, and the Clara BW normally sits right around this price — a sale might shave a few dollars. If you've been thinking about moving your reading off your phone, or your old Kindle is due for a replacement, this one is easy to recommend.
