Worth Buying: Apple Watch Series 12 (42mm, GPS) — Heart Rate Every 5 Seconds, 24-Hour Battery! $549 CAD

Amazon.ca has the Apple Watch Series 12 (42mm, GPS, aluminium case) for $549 CAD — the same as the list price. No discount here, which is why this is a "worth buying" pick rather than a deal.

If you're waiting for a drop: Series 12 only launched in September 2026, so by Apple's usual rhythm the first real discount is a Black Friday thing. Buy it now because you need it, not to save.

The meaningful upgrade this generation is heart rate. Apple calls it the most accurate heart rate sensing in a wearable: HRV is now measured as often as every five minutes, with background heart rate readings every five seconds. That sounds dry but it powers two things — a stress and recovery read, and the new readiness experience, which weighs recent activity, vitals and sleep to tell you whether to train or rest. If you're the type who wants to work out but isn't sure the body is up for it, that's more useful than a calorie count.

Sleep gets a daily score, the Vitals app shows overnight metrics, and blood oxygen is still there. On the fitness side you get Pacer, Heart Rate Zones and Workout Buddy driven by Apple Intelligence on a nearby iPhone — running, hiking and strength training all covered.

Battery is rated at 24 hours of normal use, and 15 minutes of fast charging gets you 12 hours, so a charge while you shower is enough. The aluminium case now uses Ceramic Shield 2, which Apple says is tougher than any smartwatch glass.

Safety features are unchanged in spirit: hard fall and severe crash detection, which connects you to emergency services and notifies your contacts. The GPS model relies on your iPhone or Wi-Fi — leave the phone at home and messages don't arrive; independent calling means paying for the cellular version.

Two honest caveats. It's new, so Amazon only has 32 ratings at 4.4 stars — too small a sample to read much into. And Siri AI's conversational mode is English-only for now, with some Audio Intelligence features arriving in English beta in late 2026, so don't count on those in Chinese.

$549 for a watch that reads your heart rate every five seconds, runs 24 hours, and can call for help if you fall. Not cheap — but the health tracking genuinely moved forward this generation.
