If you have pets, or a couch that's seen too much, take a look. The CleanSlate is a handheld spot cleaner — 13.5 x 14 x 11 inches and about 1.13 kg — light enough to carry room to room, up the stairs or out to the car for the seats, with strong suction that lifts deep-set dirt and moisture out of the fibres.

Clean and dirty water sit in two separate tanks, and the 40 oz (about 1.18 L) clean tank lets you cover a decent stretch of couch, rug or car seat before refilling. Two tools come in the box: a 7-inch WidePath for larger areas like stairs and sofas, and a TightSpot for crevices and corners. A hose-rinse feature flushes the internal lines with fresh water after each use, so it doesn't leave residue behind for next time.

A trial bottle of Oxy solution is included, and afterwards you can pair it with Hoover's Pet or Everyday formula. Hoover has been in the home-cleaning game for over a century, and this model is the #2 seller in the Carpet Washers category with 2,000-plus reviews. At under $100 versus the $169.99 list, it's worth keeping one on hand if you've got four-legged family members.
