This is the proper refresh of the original QuadCast. The headline change is recording spec: 24-bit/96kHz instead of 16-bit/48kHz, which shows up in vocal detail and noise floor. The body is full aluminum now, which looks and feels a step above the plastic USB mics on most desks.

Four polar patterns are selectable — cardioid for solo, omni for a room, bidirectional for two-person interviews, stereo for ambience. The top is a capacitive tap-to-mute sensor, which is faster than hunting for a software button mid-stream. The multifunction knob handles mic gain, playback volume, monitoring volume and pattern switching without alt-tabbing into NGENUITY. There's a 3.5mm jack for zero-latency monitoring, and the shock mount is now detachable via spring-loaded pins with 3/8" and 5/8" threading, so a boom arm works without an adapter.

4.6 stars across 1,357 reviews and #4 in Computer Microphones — that's a solid sample size for a USB mic. Caveats: no XLR output, so it won't go into a mixer, and on a desk it still picks up keyboard thumps; a boom arm solves most of that.

At $159.99 it's overpriced. At $129.98 with the coupon, it's back in the range this mic usually sells well at.
