The awkward thing about a porch, balcony, or patio is the late-afternoon sun: it comes straight in and the space stops being usable. These are triple-woven with a waterproof finish, so they block light and shed rain at the same time — $34 turns a patio into something closer to a room.

The design detail that matters is the rustproof stainless grommets on both the top and bottom edges, sized for rods up to 1.6". Hanging from both ends holds the fabric taut, so it doesn't get flipped up and thrashed around the way a single-row grommet curtain does in wind. If your setup only allows a top rod, it still works, just with less wind resistance.

Each panel is 52" wide by 84" long, so two side by side cover 104" — enough for a standard garage door or a double-width porch opening. Beyond shade, they work as a shower curtain or a temporary privacy screen around a yard.

Two honest complaints from reviewers. In sustained wind near 60 km/h the panels still billow like sails — the bottom grommets reduce it, they don't eliminate it. And the colour starts fading after a couple of months of direct sun; one reviewer noticed it at the two-month mark. If you want them to last, put them where there's some overhang.

Machine washable below 86°F, mild detergent, no bleach, low iron.
