Let's clear up the most common misunderstanding first: there is no active noise cancellation here. The name sits close to Sony's ANC line, but the WH-CH520 is a plain wireless headphone and isolation comes from the earcups alone. If you need to smother subway noise, you'll have to spend up for an ANC model.

What it actually does well is battery and weight. Fifty hours per charge — at two hours of commuting a day that's about three weeks. USB-C fast charge gives you 90 minutes of playback from a 3-minute top-up, enough to rescue you when you notice the battery is empty on your way out. At 145 grams it barely registers on your head and disappears into a bag.

Multi-point pairing is the other genuinely useful bit: laptop and phone connected at once, so you switch to the computer for a meeting and back to the phone for a call without diving into Bluetooth settings each time. The mic handles calls and online classes; in wind the other end will hear some of the street, so don't plan to record a podcast on it.

It holds 4.4 stars across 35,000+ reviews, ranking #576 in Electronics and #103 in Stereo Headphones. The negative feedback clusters on one thing: clamping force. The earcups are on the tight side and past about 45 minutes your ears start to feel the pressure. If your head is large or you plan to wear them all day, try before committing; for a one-hour commute it's a non-issue.

At $48 this is entry-level money for a Sony badge — cheaper than many of their earbuds. If you want ANC, this isn't the one. If you want something light that runs a week between charges and doesn't sound muddled, this is the low point of its price range this year.
