This is a full-frame body built around a 24.2MP Exmor R back-illuminated CMOS sensor with up to 15 stops of dynamic range at low sensitivities. The AF system uses 693 hybrid phase/contrast-detection points covering about 93% of the frame, and Eye AF works in both AF-S and AF-C modes — handy for portraits, with low-light focusing down to EV-3.

Five-axis in-body stabilization compensates for about 5 stops of shutter speed, keeping handheld shots steady. Continuous shooting reaches 10fps at full resolution (up to about 177 frames) with silent or mechanical shutter and AE/AF tracking. Video supports full-width oversampled 4K up to 30p and Full HD up to 120fps for slow motion. ISO ranges from 100–51,200, expandable to 50–204,800.
