Samsung 9100 PRO 2TB PCIe 5.0 NVMe SSD — 14,700MB/s Reads, Gen 5 Flagship! $569.99 CAD (38% Off)

Amazon.ca has the Samsung 9100 PRO 2TB NVMe SSD (MZ-VAP2T0B/AM) for $569.99 CAD (list $924.99, 38% off). Free shipping for Prime members; otherwise free on orders over $35.

The specs first: 14,700MB/s sequential read, 13,400MB/s write, up to 2.2M / 2.6M IOPS random, 2GB cache, PCIe 5.0 x4, NVMe 2.0, M.2 2280. In plain terms, that's about twice the 990 PRO and right at the top of what consumer M.2 drives do today.

The random numbers matter more day to day than the headline figure: large model files load in seconds, game installs and unpacks are dramatically quicker, and DirectStorage titles skip the load stutter. One owner swapping out an 860 EVO measured sequential read/write jumping from 3342/1836 to 14609/13500 on CrystalDiskMark, with some random tests more than 4x faster — enough that slow-launching apps like GIMP became noticeably snappier. Boot times, virus scans and file compression all follow.

Thermals are what make or break a Gen 5 drive. Samsung's power and thermal control claims up to 49% better efficiency; in real use it sat around 49°C on a motherboard heatsink, and a full afternoon of heavy writes throttled less than the Gen 4 drive it replaced. Fine in a laptop or a small case.

Migration is straightforward: install Samsung Magician, pick the old drive, hit migrate, and about ten minutes later the whole environment is copied over — then just change the boot order. Five-year warranty, versus three on several rivals.

Two things to check before buying: to hit full speed you need a PCIe 5.0 M.2 slot and a supporting CPU; in a 4.0 or 3.0 slot it works but caps at that generation's ceiling. And the 2TB capacity is listed as PS5 compatible if you're expanding a console.

SSD prices have climbed hard this year. $569.99 for a 2TB Gen 5 flagship isn't cheap, but in the current market it's a fair number — worth grabbing if you're building a machine or constantly deleting files to make room.
