slopehill High-Speed Hair Dryer — 110,000 RPM Brushless Motor, 268 g! $79.99 CAD (38% Off)

Amazon.ca has the slopehill high-speed hair dryer (gray) for $79.99 CAD, down from $129.99 — 38% off. Prime members ship free; otherwise free over $35.

The motor sits in the handle, and the whole thing weighs 268 g — about half of a conventional dryer. A self-developed brushless motor spins to 110,000 RPM and pushes air out at 58 m/s. Those two numbers are the price of entry for a high-speed dryer, and they're why this one is worth looking at at $79.

Three speeds and three heat settings with an LED readout and a memory function, so it comes back on at your last setting instead of making you dial it in every morning. The ion emitter is rated at 50 million negative ions — that's about killing static and smoothing the cuticle, which you'll notice in dry winter air. The constant-temperature system samples outlet temperature 50 times a second so it doesn't scorch your hair.

A genuinely useful maintenance touch: hold the speed button for 7 seconds with the dryer off and the fan reverses to blow dust and hair out of the filter. The filter is removable, so you don't have to wait until airflow drops to think about it. 2.5 m cord, three nozzles.

6,228 reviews at 4.5 stars. The recurring praise is "lighter than my Dyson," "cut my drying time in half," and "quieter than expected." Complaints are that the heat and speed buttons take some getting used to, and that the top setting is loud — it's a 2000 W machine, that comes with the territory.

$79.99 for an 110,000 RPM brushless dryer is well under Shark and Dyson money. If you're coming from a $20 drugstore dryer, the difference is audible.
