The annoyance with a pitcher is waiting for it to filter and remembering to refill it. Mounting the filter on the kitchen faucet removes both steps: washing vegetables, filling the pot, topping up a kettle — whatever comes out of the tap is already filtered.

Each cartridge is rated for 100 gallons using activated carbon, which for a household of three or four is roughly two to three months. There is a change indicator on the unit, so you do not have to track dates yourself.

Installation means unscrewing the old aerator and threading the adapter on, usually no tools needed. Renters can install it and take it with them when they move. The chrome finish matches most kitchen faucets instead of standing out.

Two things to know up front: it handles chlorine taste and odour, not reverse osmosis, and the stated limit is source water up to 600 ppm TDS — do not expect it to soften hard water. Cartridges are also consumables you will need to reorder by model.

595 reviews at 4.2 stars, now more than $35 off. If you boil water for tea daily or the chlorine smell bothers you, this is far less work and money than a under-sink system.
