Going electric isn't really about the money — it's not knowing which tier to buy. The 4100 is Sonicare's entry model: few features, but it keeps the ones that matter. Sonic vibration drives water between teeth, rated to remove up to 7x more plaque than a manual brush, and the pressure sensor flashes red when you press too hard — for anyone who has brushed their way into gum recession, that's worth more than any smart mode.

Two intensity settings let sensitive gums run gentler, and the 2-minute SmarTimer with QuadPacer buzzes every 30 seconds so all four quadrants get equal time without counting in your head. There's a brush-head replacement reminder, and a charge lasts about two weeks.

Things to accept going in: charging is slow — 5 to 8 hours or more from empty — but with a two-week runtime you just plug it in overnight. You get one C2 head in the box and replacements every three months are a running cost, though all Philips heads fit, so you can shop around. The body is water-resistant rather than waterproof; after three or four years the seal can degrade and let water in, which is how one owner ended up with a brush that switched itself on at night — wiping it dry after each use goes a long way.

59,000+ reviews at 4.3 stars with 800+ sold last month is about as much long-term signal as you get. The most common line is "should have done this years ago," followed by "my teeth have never felt this clean."
