HP 17 Laptop, 17.3" HD+ — Big Screen for Everyday Work, i3 + 256GB SSD! $637.42 CAD (16% Off)

Amazon.ca has the HP 17 laptop for $637.42 CAD, down from $754.79 — 16% off. Prime members ship free; otherwise free shipping over $35.

The screen is a 17.3-inch HD+ (1600x900) anti-glare panel at 250 nits. The benefit is simple: bigger text, more on screen, no leaning in all day. Several reviewers replaced 17-inch machines they'd run for over a decade, and the first thing they mention is not having to squint anymore.

Inside is an 11th Gen Intel Core i3-1125G4 (4 cores, 8 threads, 2.0 GHz base, up to 3.7 GHz), 8GB DDR4-3200, a 256GB PCIe NVMe SSD, and Windows 11 Home. Documents, video calls and a dozen browser tabs are fine. Video editing or heavy software is not what this machine is for. Memory and storage are adequate rather than generous — decide up front whether that's enough.

Ports are better than most budget laptops: one USB-C at 5Gbps, two USB-A at 5Gbps, HDMI 1.4b, a headphone/mic combo jack, plus gigabit Ethernet, so you don't need a dongle for a projector. There's a numeric keypad, which matters if you work in spreadsheets. It weighs 2.09 kg with roughly 6 hours of rated battery — normal for a big-screen laptop, and it's happiest sitting on a desk.

One recurring complaint worth knowing: the keyboard isn't backlit, and it reads dim in low light. If you type at night with the lights off, factor that in.

At $754.79 the list price was too high for this spec; $637.42 sits where it belongs. If what you want is a large screen for everyday work and browsing, this is a reasonable buy now. If you need performance, there are better ways to spend this budget.
