Travelpro Crew Classic 21" Softside Carry-On — 8 MagnaTrac Wheels, Lifetime Warranty — $255 CAD (31% Off)

Amazon.ca has the Travelpro Crew Classic 21-inch softside carry-on for $255 CAD (list $369.99, 31% off). Prime members ship free; otherwise free shipping on orders over $35.

Travelpro is the brand carried by crews at more than 90 airlines, and the Crew line is built around how flight attendants actually use a bag. This one rolls on eight 360° MagnaTrac self-aligning spinner wheels that straighten themselves out, so you're not fighting the case down a terminal corridor. The PowerScope handle is airline-grade aluminium with four stops (36, 38, 40 and 42.5 inches) and noticeably less wobble than most bags at this price.

It weighs 3.18 kg with 47 L of volume; the case itself is 20.5 × 13.75 × 9 inches, a standard carry-on. Zippered expansion adds 2 inches, and the centre of gravity is kept low so a full bag doesn't tip forward. Inside there's a removable compression packing organiser that doubles as a divider, plus hold-down straps, water-resistant storage and accessory pockets. The lining is made from about 8.5 recycled plastic bottles with an H2O guard finish. YKK zippers, and a zipper repair kit is included.

Warranty is limited lifetime plus a three-year Trusted Companion Promise: damage caused by an airline or carrier is covered for repair in the first three years (registration and original purchase required). That's the real difference between this and a $200 case.

Two caveats: there's no TSA lock, so you'll want one for US connections, and it's softside, not a hard shell.

4.5 stars from 476 reviews; one long-time traveller calls it the closest thing to a perfect softside carry-on he's found. If you fly a dozen times a year, $255 for a bag that can be repaired beats replacing a cheap one every two years.
