Peak is a rework of the straw that's been around for years, and the two changes matter: the microfiber element was reworked so sand and silt clog it less and the flow stays smooth, and the housing is built from thicker material that's tougher and leak-proof. The whole thing is 2 ounces, so on a pack strap you won't notice it.

It removes 99.999999% of bacteria (E. coli and Salmonella included), 99.999% of parasites (Giardia, Cryptosporidium) and microplastics, plus silt, sand and cloudiness. Drink straight from a lake, river or stream, or fill a bottle and use it on the go. Flow is about 3 litres a minute — not one of those straws you have to fight.

The detail people miss: it has no shelf life. Five or ten years in an emergency bag and it still works, which for a go-bag item matters more than any spec. Capacity is 4,000 litres — over five years at two litres a day.

Tested against EPA and NSF/ANSI drinking water protocols. And every purchase funds a schoolchild's safe water for a school year.

4.6 stars from 4,932 ratings, #4 in Camping & Hiking Water Filters. Camping, fishing, road trips, home emergency kit — it gets used more than you'd expect.
