Game 2 of the World Series was played at American Family Field in Milwaukee on Saturday, where the Brewers erased a 0-4 deficit to beat the Tampa Bay Rays 5-4 and take a 2-0 series lead in front of 43,245 fans.
The Rays scored four runs within their first five batters of the first inning, with Toronto-born Liam Hicks hitting a two-run homer to become the fourth Canadian-born player to homer in a World Series. But the visitors soon got sloppy: first baseman Jonathan Aranda let a ground ball trickle through his legs, Hicks was thrown out at the plate on an aggressive send, and left fielder Chandler Simpson let a ball carom off his glove.
Milwaukee kept chipping away. In the sixth, Sal Frelick — who hit just four homers in 111 regular-season games — connected on a left-on-left homer to straightaway centre to tie it 4-4, and Cooper Pratt singled home the go-ahead run an inning later. Relievers JoJo Romero, Dustin May, DL Hall, Abner Uribe and Aaron Ashby combined for six scoreless innings. The Brewers are 9-1 in the playoffs and had not lost at home since Sept. 13. Game 3 is Monday at 8 p.m. ET at Tropicana Field, with Robert Gasser facing former teammate Freddy Peralta.

2. Volkanovski Stops Evloev in Round Two to Defend Title at UFC 333
Source: MMA Fighting
In the UFC 333 main event in Abu Dhabi on Saturday, Alexander Volkanovski stopped previously undefeated Movsar Evloev at 4:54 of the second round with a barrage of ground strikes to defend the featherweight belt.
The Australian used inside leg kicks and stiff jabs to control distance early and shrugged off two takedown attempts; after being dragged down in the second, he reversed into top position, opened a cut with a heavy combination and finished the fight on the ground. It was his second straight title defence since reclaiming the belt and his third consecutive championship-fight win.
"He's a great fighter, he was undefeated for a reason, but I said I'm the right guy for that job," Volkanovski said. Evloev, beaten for the first time, paid tribute: "It was a terrible fight. He's a good one. Older, stronger, better, he's truly a legend. I'm grateful for this opportunity."

3. Antonelli Takes U.S. Grand Prix Pole, Closing In on Youngest F1 Title
Source: TSN
Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli took a surprise pole position for the U.S. Grand Prix in Austin on Saturday, beating Red Bull's Max Verstappen. It was the 20-year-old Italian's first pole since Belgium, seven races ago.
A victory on Sunday, combined with teammate George Russell finishing ninth or lower and Lewis Hamilton finishing outside the top four, would make Antonelli the youngest champion in F1 history. He leads Russell by 102 points and Hamilton by 111 after winning five of the first six races this season.
Hamilton starts fourth and Russell sixth. Four-time champion Verstappen, who has won four times at COTA and took the previous two races in Malaysia and Singapore, declined to offer advice: "He doesn't need that. He knows what he's doing. When it's official, go celebrate."

4. Oilers Routed 7-2 by Maple Leafs as Babcock Takes Blame
Source: Sportsnet
Edmonton lost 7-2 to the Toronto Maple Leafs at home on Saturday night, just their second defeat of the season, and it came in front of a national Saturday-night audience.
Leon Draisaitl scored both Edmonton goals — his 12th of the year — while Connor McDavid and Evan Bouchard each had two assists, but the rest of the lineup disappeared. Toronto got goals from depth players Troy Stecher, Zack MacEwen and Vinni Lettieri. Tristan Jarry was no better than the group in front of him, while former Oiler Anthony Stolarz had a far easier night at the other end.
"Jim Hiller had his group playing harder than I had my group. That's on me," head coach Mike Babcock said. "Their bottom six was better than ours. They were more competitive than us. They were quicker than us." Kasperi Kapanen called it "a shame." With Devon Levi out with a groin injury, Jarry is likely to start Monday against Detroit and Wednesday against Calgary.

5. Batherson's Hat Trick Lifts Senators Past Rangers 7-4
Source: Sportsnet
Ottawa beat the New York Rangers 7-4 at home on Saturday to improve to 8-4-0 in Travis Green's third season behind the bench, a group that has fully bought into his system.
The Senators led 3-0 early in the second period but were clinging to a 4-3 lead by the intermission. "We got like five per cent loose or less competitive, and that happens a lot when you get a lead," Green said. Ottawa stuck to its structure in the third, blocking shots and limiting chances, and Jake Sanderson called it a sign of the group's maturity.
With Linus Ullmark on injured reserve and not expected back before Thursday at the earliest, 31-year-old Swedish goaltender Jonas Johansson made his Senators debut and held up when it mattered. Acquired in late September, he had been with AHL Belleville. Ottawa now heads out on a five-game, 11-day road trip.

6. Stevens Sets CFL Rushing Touchdown Record as Riders Beat Elks 16-9
Source: TSN
Saskatchewan beat the Edmonton Elks 16-9 in Regina on Saturday, with short-yardage specialist Tommy Stevens scoring two one-yard rushing touchdowns to break the CFL's single-season record for rushing majors.
The previous mark of 16 was shared by Riders legend George Reed (1968) and Caleb Evans (2022). Stevens tied it in the second quarter and claimed it in the fourth, giving him 47 rushing touchdowns in 86 career games. "It hasn't really set in yet, but I'm not going to sit here and act like I didn't want it," he said. "To have your name mentioned alongside George, it's surreal. It's not just my name, this is our award."
The Riders (10-8) moved into third in the West and visit the B.C. Lions on Oct. 31, with the first-place Elks (13-5) hosting the winner in the West final on Nov. 7. Edmonton took 14 penalties for 146 yards, and both of Stevens' touchdowns were set up by pass interference calls.
7. NFL Still on Track to Play Steelers-Saints in Paris Amid Protests
Source: NBC Sports
The Steelers-Saints game in Paris remains on schedule. As of Saturday night, with kickoff less than 13 hours away, the plan was still full speed ahead for Stade de France at 9:30 a.m. ET Sunday.
Paris had another day of protests beforehand. More than 400,000 people took part in demonstrations and more than 1,000 were arrested, according to the Associated Press; a march that began peacefully ended with protesters throwing fireworks and other objects at police, who responded with tear gas, sound grenades and water cannons.
The open question is whether protesters will target the NFL game to send an international message. No matter how secure the stadium is, the route to the venue's security perimeter may not be. For the league, it is a calculated risk tied to its push to export the game.

8. Raptors Play Bigger Than Their Size in 112-102 Win Over Wizards
Source: Sportsnet
Toronto beat Washington 112-102 on Friday to move to 2-0, despite facing a Wizards frontcourt stocked with Anthony Davis, Alex Sarr and Deandre Ayton while relying on Jakob Poeltl as their only true centre.
Scottie Barnes led the way with a game-high 28 points, 14 rebounds, two blocks and two steals, while six-foot-seven second-year forward Collin Murray-Boyles added eight points, five rebounds and three steals in 18 foul-plagued minutes at plus-21. "We don't feel small at all. We use it as an advantage," Murray-Boyles said.
Davis was limited to nine points on 3-of-12 shooting with four turnovers and was minus-13 in 32 minutes; Sarr had four points and five rebounds and Ayton four points and six rebounds. Washington shot 38 per cent, went 12-of-38 from three and committed 20 turnovers. The Raptors visit Minnesota on Sunday.

9. NC State Fires Coach Dave Doeren After 14 Seasons
Source: Bleacher Report
NC State fired head coach Dave Doeren on Saturday following a 3-4 start that included losses to Stanford and Wake Forest.
Athletic director Boo Corrigan thanked Doeren for his service and contributions in a statement. General manager Andy Vaughn was also fired, per On3, and running backs coach and special teams coordinator Todd Goebbel takes over as interim head coach.
Doeren leaves with a 98-74 record, the most wins in school history, and made 10 bowl appearances without winning an ACC title. The Wolfpack own the second-worst scoring defence in the ACC at 28.1 points per game and sit 16th in the conference standings after opening the season with a 34-8 loss to Virginia.

10. Texas Holds Off Ole Miss 34-27 After Another Second-Half Scare
Source: Fox News
Texas beat No. 7 Ole Miss 34-27 in Austin on Saturday night, with the game decided on the final play.
The Longhorns led 24-3 but managed just 19 yards in the third quarter while Ole Miss scored 14, then surrendered 21 unanswered points. Arch Manning threw his second interception with 13:24 left in the fourth, after a strip sack had already been returned for a touchdown — the same pattern that showed up against Oklahoma and Florida earlier this season.
Manning answered with a rushing touchdown in the fourth. Ole Miss hit a field goal and recovered an onside kick late, but Trinidad Chambliss's heave to the end zone was intercepted by a Texas defender. "I was pacing, saying a few prayers," Manning said. "Our defence came up clutch, that's what it's all about."
