A motorcyclist has been seriously injured in a crash in Mississauga, Peel police say. The collision between a motorcycle and another vehicle happened in the area of Financial Drive and Derry Road West shortly after 8:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 30.
The rider was taken to a local trauma centre with serious injuries. The driver of the other vehicle remained at the scene.
Police say the cause of the collision is under investigation and have released no further details.

2. Walmart rolls out AI shopping assistant Sparky across Canada

Walmart launched its AI-powered shopping assistant, called Sparky, across Canada on Thursday. The tool is available through the company's website and mobile app in both English and French, and lets customers ask questions instead of searching for items one by one, recommending products, summarizing customer reviews and building shopping lists.
Outside the Walmart at Ottawa Train Yards on Friday, shoppers gave CTV News mixed reactions. Pierre LeVasseur, who shops there for groceries, paper towels and Kleenex with his wife Lucie, said AI is simply part of everyday life now: "We don't have a choice. It's part of the tool, it's like having a computer, it's new and we have to learn it." Lucie said she worries about how much personal and financial information could be captured.
Retail analyst Bruce Winder said the tool could be especially useful for comparing prices in the current economy, but cautioned that AI platforms can show outdated pricing or recommend products that are no longer available, so shoppers should verify before buying. Walmart says it plans to add image-based shopping and recipe inspiration later, without giving a timeline.

3. Crown seeks two years for coach who made deepfake porn of players

A southern Alberta courtroom heard sentencing arguments Friday for a former Lethbridge girls football coach who used artificial intelligence to create pornographic images of some of his players.
Justin Tillery, 38, was arrested in July 2025 by Alberta's Law Enforcement Response Internet Child Exploitation Unit. At the time he was a junior football coach with the Lethbridge Rams and a volunteer with Football Alberta's U-18 women's team. He pleaded guilty to making and possessing child pornography.
The Crown is seeking two years in prison and 36 months of probation.

4. Clocks fall back Sunday across most of Ontario, but not the northwest
Source: CP24
Clocks across most of Ontario fall back one hour at 2 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 1, returning to 1 a.m. Kenora and northwestern Ontario are the exception: daylight time is now permanent there, so those communities will not change their clocks this fall.
The move keeps the region aligned with Manitoba, which announced in September that it would stop returning to standard time. Ontario said it consulted Indigenous leaders and communities in the northwest. A City of Kenora survey drew 5,261 responses, with more than 93 per cent supporting permanent daylight time.
Attorney General Doug Downey called the approach "practical" and "common-sense," saying it avoids unnecessary disruption and ensures economic stability in communities in Ontario's central time zone. York University biology professor Patricia Lakin-Thomas warned that permanent daylight time means children head to school and parents commute in the dark, which can cause lasting physiological stress.

5. Two charged, two still wanted in Scarborough assault

Toronto police are asking for help identifying two outstanding suspects in an aggravated assault investigation. Police say the victim was leaving an establishment and walking alone through a plaza near Eglinton Avenue East and Brimley Road on the afternoon of Oct. 3 when two accused and an unknown man approached and assaulted the victim unprovoked. As the victim tried to get up, a second unknown suspect attacked again; the victim was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Vincent Lewis, 31, of Toronto, was arrested that day and charged with aggravated assault and robbery. On Friday, a second suspect turned himself in: Kadeem Anderson-Binns, 34, of Toronto, faces the same two charges.
Two suspects remain at large. One is described as thin with a moustache and framed glasses, wearing a black toque and all-black clothing and carrying a thin black bag. The other has a medium build, black facial hair and long black dreadlocks, and was wearing a black Nike sweater, black jacket and black shoes with white soles with a black-and-grey crossbody bag. Anyone with information is asked to call 416-808-4100.

6. Cyclist, 18, killed by driver fleeing Quebec police in Montreal

An 18-year-old cyclist is dead after being struck by a car fleeing provincial police in Montreal's Ahuntsic-Cartierville borough on Friday, prompting an investigation by Quebec's police watchdog.
Montreal police received a 911 call around noon reporting a collision between a vehicle and a cyclist at Jeanne-Mance Street and Henri-Bourassa Boulevard. Police spokesperson Manuel Couture said the cyclist was crossing when the driver struck him head-on while heading south at high speed; the speed limit on Jeanne-Mance is 30 km/h. Paramedics declared the man dead at the scene.
The driver fled on foot before emergency crews arrived, and his car was found near the scene. Quebec's Bureau des enquêtes indépendantes (BEI) said an unmarked Sûreté du Québec patrol car spotted a possible highway safety violation and tried to intercept the vehicle, which fled and then hit the cyclist. Six BEI investigators have been assigned. Montreal police have opened a parallel criminal investigation.

7. Kucherov tells Lightning he won't re-sign, requests trade
Source: CP24
Reigning NHL MVP Nikita Kucherov has told the Tampa Bay Lightning he will not re-sign and has asked for a trade, according to a person with knowledge of the situation. The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity Friday; Sportsnet first reported the news, and the Lightning did not immediately respond.
Kucherov, 33, is set to become an unrestricted free agent after this season, the last of an eight-year, US$76-million contract signed in 2018. He has since helped Tampa Bay win the Stanley Cup twice, led the NHL in scoring three times and won the Hart Trophy in 2018-19 and 2025-26.
His 1,139 points in 891 regular-season games since debuting in 2013 rank third over that span behind only Edmonton's Connor McDavid and Colorado's Nathan MacKinnon, and his 177 playoff points are the most in that period. Last weekend he passed former captain Steven Stamkos as the franchise's career points leader. He has four goals and 11 assists for 15 points in 12 games this season, second on the team behind Brandon Hagel.

8. Argos host Blue Bombers in East semifinal Saturday

The Toronto Argonauts host the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the CFL East Division semifinal Saturday afternoon at BMO Field. The teams split their regular-season series 1-1, with both games played in Manitoba because World Cup games were staged in southern Ontario.
Argos quarterback Chad Kelly signed a five-year extension this week worth more than $1 million annually. The 2023 CFL outstanding player set career highs with 5,067 passing yards and 33 touchdowns, but also threw a league-high 24 interceptions. He said Friday he got a text that morning from his uncle, Hall of Fame quarterback Jim Kelly: "Take what the defence gives you."
Toronto averaged a CFL-best 342.5 passing yards per game and tied Montreal for most TD passes (39), with four 1,000-yard receivers — Damonte Coxie, Tyler Kahmann and Canadians David Ungerer III and Kevin Mital — a franchise first. Winnipeg allowed the fewest passing yards (272.1 per game) and completions (389), but ranked eighth against the run (117.4 yards per game) behind Canadian Brady Oliveira, who led the league with 237 carries and 1,493 yards. Dru Brown starts at quarterback for Winnipeg with Zach Collaros out with injured ribs.

9. Mark Critch hits back at U.S. podcasters over Newfoundland accents
Source: CP24
Newfoundland comedian Mark Critch has hit back at two right-wing U.S. podcasters over their complaints about the Newfoundland-set Netflix thriller "Below," which was shot in eastern Newfoundland and was still Netflix's most-watched English title as of last week.
On Tuesday's "This Hour Has 22 Minutes," Critch mocked Matt Walsh's claim that the show's Newfoundland accents are "the ugliest of all time." In a 32-minute video last week, Walsh called the series "woke slop" and joked that its sea monster was a misunderstood "single mom" and "feminist icon." Speaking in accent, Critch shot back, "Oh no, I gotta quit me job!" before calling Walsh an "arsehole" and adding: "Oh, so Matt Walsh doesn't hate Newfoundlanders. He hates women."
Critch also roasted commentator Ben Shapiro, who recently complained the show was "go-woke slop" partly over its climate change messaging. Critch has been on "22 Minutes" since 2003, is known for his impersonation of U.S. President Donald Trump and co-created and stars in "Son of a Critch."

10. Canadian radio host Shannon Ella takes the mic at the Grand Ole Opry
Source: CP24
Canadian radio host Shannon Ella stepped onto the Grand Ole Opry stage in Nashville on Thursday night as guest announcer for a special show marking the Opry's 100th anniversary and 50 years of the Canadian Country Music Association.
Ella hosts on Pure Country and iHeartRadio, broadcasting out of the CTV News station in Barrie, Ont., and her Toronto office. The night brought together generations of Canadian country talent, including Opry member Terri Clark, Carolyn Dawn Johnson, Gord Bamford, Paul Brandt, Tami Neilson, Brett Kissel and Tenille Arts.
For Ella, the most meaningful moment was introducing Jess Moskaluke for her Opry debut — the same artist who fell to her knees in tears at September's CCMA Awards when Ella was on stage as she learned of the invitation. On Thursday, Moskaluke performed her platinum hit "Cheap Wine and Cigarettes" and her personal favourite "Take Me Home," earning a standing ovation. Gord Bamford also made his Opry debut the same night.
