Samsung's 990 1TB PCIe Gen4 NVMe M.2 SSD (MZ-V9V1T0B/AM, Canada version) is $249.99 CAD on Amazon.ca, down from $314.99 — 21% off. Prime members ship free; everyone else gets free shipping over $35 CAD.

The 990 is a newer line slotted below the 990 PRO: fast enough, efficient, and priced more sensibly. 1TB, PCIe 4.0, up to 7,150MB/s sequential read and 6,450MB/s write, with 850K/1,200K IOPS random read/write. That is squarely first-tier for PCIe 4.0 — Windows boots, big games load, and 4K footage transfers without the drive being the bottleneck.

The real difference from the 990 PRO is efficiency. Samsung claims up to 38% better performance per watt, which matters most in laptops and mini PCs where thermal headroom is thin and sustained transfers can otherwise throttle. In a desktop used as a game drive it is a straightforward fit — 1TB holds roughly 12 to 15 current AAA titles.

It is a standard M.2 2280, 68 g, single screw into the motherboard slot with no power cable. Warranty is 3 years or 400TBW, which most household workloads will not come close to within three to five years.

Reviews sit at 4.7 stars but only 75 of them, so the sample is still small for a recent model. One caveat: if you are expanding a PS5, Sony requires a heatsink — this is a bare drive, so budget for an aftermarket heatsink.

There is also a clippable coupon on the product page; tick it before checkout. $249.99 is not an all-time low for 1TB, but it is $65 below list.
