Best Buy currently has the Samsung M7 43" 4K UHD VA smart gaming monitor (LS43FM702UNXZA) for $399.95 CAD (regular $649.95, 38% off). Free shipping on orders over $35.

It's a 43-inch panel at a native 3840 x 2160, 16:9, using VA. VA's strength is contrast and deep blacks, which shows up in movies and story-driven games more than an IPS at this price; the trade-off is speed, since 4ms grey-to-grey and 60Hz aren't built for competitive shooters. That's not what this screen is for.

The actual selling point is that it works without a PC. Gaming Hub lets you sign into cloud gaming and streaming platforms and start playing with no console and no computer; Smart TV apps cover streaming; SmartThings ties your smart home devices into the same screen. In a bedroom or study it behaves more like a 43-inch smart TV that happens to have monitor inputs.

Ports are two HDMI, three USB, and one USB-C. The USB-C port is the useful one for laptop users — a single cable for video and power, which clears a lot of clutter off the desk. Multi Control lets one mouse and keyboard drag content between the monitor, a Galaxy Tab, and a Galaxy phone, and it works smoothly if you're already in Samsung's ecosystem.

The screen is matte, so it doesn't turn into a mirror by a window at midday. Built-in 20W speakers are considerably louder than the 5W pairs most monitors ship with, enough for shows without external audio. Viewing angles are 178 degrees, brightness is 300 cd/m².

Samsung M7 rear and stand

The stand only tilts — no height, swivel, or portrait rotation, which is one of the places the price comes from. The back is VESA 200 x 200 though, so an arm or wall mount works, and at 43 inches that's arguably the better setup anyway. It's 10kg with the stand, so mounting is easier with two people. Typical power draw is 210W.

At $399.95 for a 43-inch 4K smart display, the $250 cut puts it in fairly rare territory for the size. Pricing runs through October 30.

The honest trade-off: if you want a high-refresh gaming monitor, 60Hz and 4ms won't do it. If you want a big 4K screen that doubles as a TV, takes a laptop over USB-C, and lets you skip a streaming box, this fits.
