The problem with a glass-carafe brewer is the hot plate: the pot sits there stewing and half an hour later the coffee turns bitter. This one uses a four-layer vacuum carafe — stainless exterior, vacuum layer, copper coating, stainless interior — rated to hold 154°F or hotter for two hours, and the outside stays cool to the touch. You carry the carafe to the table and the machine does not need to stay powered.

Extraction comes from the Vortex showerhead, which spreads water evenly over the grounds instead of dumping it down the middle, at 750W. The pour spout is shaped to stop drips running down the side of the carafe. Capacity is 3 quarts, which at 5 oz a cup works out to 12 cups — enough for guests or for two or three people drinking through a morning.
