Honest note first: that $914.99 list price doesn't mean much — flash prices have been running high all year, so what matters is that flagship 2TB Gen4 drives generally start around $500 now. There's also a coupon on the page that takes the checkout price below $544.99.

Performance is the point: 7,450MB/s sequential read and 6,900MB/s write, essentially maxing out PCIe 4.0, with 1,400K/1,550K random IOPS — 40%/55% faster random reads and writes than the 980 PRO. In DirectStorage titles on PS5, the load-time difference is something you can actually feel.

The heatsink isn't cosmetic.
