Amazon.ca has the Lenovo ThinkPad Hybrid USB-C / USB-A Dock (40AF0135US) for $220.79 CAD (list price $345.99 CAD, 36% off). Prime members ship free; otherwise orders over $35 CAD ship free.

This solves the "never enough ports" problem: three USB 3.1 Gen2 ports (10Gbps, one with always-on charging), two USB 2.0, one USB-C, Gigabit Ethernet, two DisplayPort, two HDMI and a combo audio jack, plus a 135W adapter and support for dual 4K displays.

"Hybrid" refers to two modes of operation. On a USB-C or Thunderbolt laptop it runs as a native dock and rapid-charges the notebook; on older machines you use the included USB-C to USB-A adapter and it runs through a DisplayLink software driver. The compatibility list covers the T480/T490 generation, X1 Carbon Gen 5 and 6, X280, the E and L series, and X1 Yoga/Tablet. Non-Lenovo laptops mostly work too, though some Dell machines won't.

Rear port layout

Two things to know up front. Some laptops need the Lenovo DisplayLink driver installed first — plug-and-play isn't guaranteed, and that's where most people get stuck. There's also no VGA port, so a VGA-only monitor needs an adapter. Watch third-party sellers as well; a few buyers received scuffed units advertised as new.

For working from home, one cable connects two monitors, wired network, keyboard and mouse — unplug and go. The $345 list price is steep, but $220 is a fair range to buy in.
