Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said Monday that Saudi Arabia had demanded the cancellation, "for the time being," of a meeting planned for that day among Iranian, Omani and other regional delegations to discuss control of the Strait of Hormuz. Meanwhile, Yemen's Iran-backed Houthi rebels captured more strategic territory near the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, deploying fighters to the Hanish islands after government forces withdrew. The escalation pushed oil prices higher, with Brent crude rising 3.2% to $107.94 a barrel, near a four-month high. Iran's foreign minister denied any involvement in last week's attack on Saudi Arabia's East-West pipeline.

Hundreds of rescuers including the coastguard joined the search for 129 people missing after an Indonesian passenger ship capsized in the Java Sea, authorities said Monday. The Virgo Transport 8 ship was carrying 243 people from Surabaya on Java to Banjarmasin on Borneo when it lost contact with its operator during poor weather. 10. Finland Joins France's Nuclear Deterrence Plan

Macron proposed the plan on March 2 during a speech at a military base in western France, saying France would not only increase its number of nuclear warheads but also carry out the deterrence plan with other European countries. The plan gives partner countries the opportunity to take part in deterrence exercises and, in some cases, allows French nuclear-capable aircraft to deploy deep into the European continent.
