The headline feature on the QuietComfort Ultra is Immersive Audio, which places the soundstage in front of you instead of inside your head, so music feels like it's coming from a pair of speakers rather than pressed against your ears. CustomTune analyses the shape of your ear canal every time you put them on and adapts the output, which is why the same track can sound different from one listener to the next. Adjustable EQ in the Bose Music app lets you tune bass, mid-range and treble separately.

Noise control comes in three states: Quiet for full active cancellation, Aware so you can hear your surroundings without taking them off, and Immersion, which stacks full cancellation on top of spatial audio. Planes, subways and open offices each get their own setting. At 250 g with protein leather cushions and a headband that spreads pressure evenly, they stay comfortable through long sessions.

Battery life runs up to 24 hours, or about 18 hours with Immersive Audio enabled, and a 15-minute charge is good for up to 2.5 hours of playback. Bluetooth 5.3 supports multi-point, so you can switch between your phone and laptop without repairing.
