Worth Buying: Sonos Era 100 Smart Speaker — One Fills the Room, Two Is the Real Point

Amazon.ca has the Sonos Era 100 wireless smart speaker (Black) at $289 CAD — same as Sonos' own price, and it rarely goes on sale. Prime members ship free; otherwise orders over $35 ship free.

It's the proper successor to the Sonos One, and the most tangible upgrade is a woofer 25% larger than the One's, which means noticeably deeper bass. Two angled tweeters push highs left and right, so the soundstage holds up better as you move around the couch. The processor is 47% faster and there's a dedicated co-neural processor handling audio, which makes room tuning more accurate.

Connectivity is generous: WiFi, Bluetooth and a 3.5 mm line-in, so a turntable, an older TV or a laptop can plug straight in. Alexa handles voice, and it works as an AirPlay target from an iPhone. Controls are touch-based on top, and the cabinet is small enough for a bookshelf, kitchen counter or nightstand.

Buy one and you get a very good small speaker. Add a second for a stereo pair and you understand why Sonos charges what it does — the stage opens up and dialogue locks into place when you watch a movie. Sonos keeps tighter control of its pricing than most audio brands, so $289 is simply the going rate; don't expect Black Friday to bring it near $200. This is a buy-it-when-you-need-it product, not a wait-for-a-deal one.

The most consistent notes in reviews are that the sound exceeds its size and that pairing two takes only a few minutes. Complaints mostly land on the price and on having to use the Sonos app for EQ.
