Once a dog passes seven, metabolism, kidneys and body condition all shift. Staying on adult kibble isn't wrong, but the formula stops being targeted. This one is built for 7+: high-quality protein to hold lean muscle, a mineral balance tuned for heart, kidney and bladder health, plus omega-6 fatty acids and vitamin E for skin and coat. The current formula adds ActivBiome+, a prebiotic fibre blend aimed at digestion and immune support.

The kibble is deliberately tiny — good for small breeds, and for dogs that gulp rather than chew. Ingredients are natural, including chicken meal, barley and rice, and the packaging materials are sourced in Canada. Hill's standing among Canadian vets needs little explanation: no brand is trusted more by Canadian vets to feed their own pets.

12,000+ reviews at 4.6 stars. The patterns in them are specific: firmer stools after switching, older dogs perking up, urinary crystals clearing on follow-up. Food isn't medicine and those are individual cases, but they say something about palatability and how well it's digested.

A 2.26 kg bag lasts a small dog roughly three to four weeks. 22% isn't a blockbuster discount, but dog food is a recurring cost, and $8 saved is $8 saved.
