Seagate Portable 2TB External HDD — Plug and Play, Plus a Year of Data Rescue! $184.99 CAD (12% Off)

Amazon.ca has the Seagate Portable 2TB external hard drive (STGX2000400) for $184.99 CAD (list $209.99, 12% off). Prime members ship free; otherwise free shipping over $35.

This is the unglamorous fix for the most annoying problem: phone and laptop full, and you can't bring yourself to delete the photos and old project files. 2TB is the mainstream capacity at this size, and it's recognised the moment you plug it in — no drivers, no software, drag and drop. The included cable is an 18-inch USB 3.0; real-world speed depends on your machine and file types, but moving a few dozen GB of photos is not an afternoon.

Windows works out of the box. Mac owners need one extra step: the drive ships NTFS, which macOS can read but not write, so format it to exFAT or APFS in Disk Utility first. Easy once you know, a common stumbling block if you don't.

It's the #1 seller in External Hard Drives with 267,000+ ratings at 4.6 stars and 5,000+ bought last month. The two phrases that repeat in reviews are "recognised immediately" and "cheap and reliable", with several owners reporting three years of no failures. Complaints land in two places: the plastic enclosure feels budget, and one buyer's 2TB photo transfer took nearly ten hours — usually an old USB port or millions of tiny files rather than the drive.

It also includes a one-year Rescue Data Recovery Service, which is the thing no-name drives at this price don't offer. You can hang it off a PS4/PS5 for game storage too, but don't expect SSD speeds.

$184.99 for 2TB isn't a doorbuster, but for the category leader with recovery service included, a 12% cut is a reasonable window. Good timing if you've been meaning to back up the family machine.
