SwissGear Signature 27" Hardside Expandable Spinner — 88L & TSA Lock! $167.04 CAD (20% Off)

Amazon.ca has the SwissGear Signature 27-inch hardside expandable spinner in black for $167.04 CAD, down from $209.99 — 20% off. Prime members ship free; otherwise free shipping over $35 CAD.

27 inches is the sweet spot for checked luggage: a week to ten days for one or two people without sitting on the lid to close it.

You get 88 litres in a split-case layout with internal pockets and a divider, so clean and dirty clothes stay apart. The zipper expansion buys you a few extra centimetres for the return trip. The shell is an ABS/polycarbonate blend — water resistant, and it shrugs off the scuffs that come with being thrown on and off belts. At 4.58 kg it's light for the size.

Four 360-degree spinner wheels mean you can push it upright or pull it sideways, which makes narrow aisles far less annoying than a two-wheel box. There's a steel telescoping handle with soft rubber grips, a TSA combination lock built into the shell, and a moulded cupholder on the side — a small thing until you're standing in a boarding queue holding a coffee.

One honest caveat: the wheels are the most criticised part of this line. Some owners find it rolls stiffly when fully packed, and one reviewer had a wheel fail on the first flight (more an airport-handling problem than a design flaw, but it happened). SwissGear backs it with a 10-year warranty against defects in materials and workmanship, so use it rather than living with a broken wheel.

If you fly two or three times a year and want something that holds up without paying premium-luggage money, this is a sensible buy. If you want Rimowa-grade wheel hardware, that's a different budget entirely.
