This isn't the chalk paint itself. It's the semi-transparent glaze you brush over a cured Chalked finish, then wipe back until the look is right. More glaze, more age; wipe harder, cleaner edges. Wood grain, brush strokes, corners and crevices all come forward. Because it's semi-transparent, colour builds in layers — you can keep going darker without ruining it in one stroke.

Seven ounces sounds small but goes far. Reviewers report half a tin doing a full set of kitchen cupboards, and one can covering two nightstands, a seven-drawer dresser, a four-drawer dresser and three end tables with some left over. Thin coats, wiped back, is how it's meant to be used.

Two practical notes: let the base paint cure fully — one reviewer waited the full five days and got the best result — and work in sections, because the glaze dries fast. Centre panel first, then inner edge, then outer. Try a scrap board before you touch furniture.

4.6 stars over 178 ratings, #5 in Ceramics Glazes. At $29.99 it's a cheap way to make builder-grade furniture look like something out of a catalogue.
