4. Patriots WR A.J. Brown Exits Opener With Ankle Injury

Receiver A.J. Brown, the New England Patriots' biggest offseason acquisition, went down with an ankle injury in the third quarter of Wednesday night's opener against the Seahawks and was ruled out for the rest of the game. Seattle went on to rally for a 13-10 win.

On a low throw, Seahawks cornerback Nehemiah Pritchett landed on Brown's leg, and Brown grabbed above his ankle before leaving for the locker room. He was reportedly seen leaving in a walking boot on his right foot.

6. Sportsnet to Charge Extra Fee for Monday NHL Games

Canadian hockey fans who subscribe to Sportsnet through a TV provider will have to pay an extra $13 a month to watch Monday night national NHL broadcasts this season, the company announced Wednesday. The new package goes on sale Sept. 15.

The news came as Sportsnet unveiled plans for the first season of its $11-billion, 12-year NHL contract. The network confirmed Kevin Bieksa and Elliotte Friedman will return on Saturday night broadcasts, renamed Saturday Night Hockey.

Monday Night Hockey, hosted by David Amber, returns to Sportsnet after two seasons on Amazon Prime. Sportsnet also said it has eliminated regional blackouts on 150 games, which will now be carried nationally.

Toronto Maple Leafs first-overall pick Gavin McKenna will spend his rookie season living with veteran forward and former captain John Tavares. Tavares revealed the arrangement to reporters Tuesday in Las Vegas at the NHL/NHLPA player media tour.

Tavares said he wants McKenna to enjoy everything about being a Maple Leaf, while having a family environment to return to when the pressure mounts. Tavares, himself a first-overall pick in 2009, said he can relate to McKenna's situation.

McKenna, from Whitehorse, Yukon, had 15 goals and 51 points in 34 games for Penn State last season. Toronto opens its preseason Sept. 19 and its regular season Sept. 29 against Montreal.
