This isn't a clock for people who know what day it is. It's for someone who doesn't, or who can no longer tell morning from afternoon. Nothing is abbreviated — the screen spells out "Thursday", "Morning", "October 29" in full on an 8-inch display that the company says is readable from up to 20 feet by people with low vision. The panels are sourced from Japan, and it shows: the lettering is clean, not pixelated like an old calculator.

Three things that matter day to day. It dims itself from 7 pm to 7 am, so it stays readable at night without lighting up the bedroom. Battery backup keeps time through a power cut, so it comes back correct. And there are five multi-function alarms, which is what makes it genuinely useful for medication reminders, appointments and morning wake-ups. It stands on a built-in kickstand or hangs on a keyhole slot. Setup runs off a scrolling menu and the included booklet walks through it; you do it once for a parent.

Full words, nothing to guess

Two caveats from reviews. Daylight saving is handled automatically, but several buyers still had to confirm the change manually on the day — worth checking for an older relative. And at least one person received the wrong colour, so open the box and check.

4.6 stars across more than 14,000 ratings, and a lot of them are from adult children buying for a parent. $74.95, under the hundred-dollar mark this normally sits above.
